Chappel receive £28227 from Sport England

Chappel and Wakes Colne Cricket Club has secured £28,227 of Olympic legacy funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund.

The funded project is for The Ted Wackett Memorial Ground, in recognition of former Colts organiser and Groundsman for over 20 years, Ted Wackett. It will turn a recently acquired adjoining field into a practice and match area for Colts aged 9-16 years old. This will include a new all weather cricket pitch, a net facility with an all weather surface for batting and bowling plus renewal of the existing all weather pitch. This will provide members and general users with increased access to cricket facilities in the local and surrounding areas.

Chairman Ian Wyatt, said: “We are delighted to secure the first Inspired Facilities grant, which will enable us to upgrade the quality of our premises to match the aspirations of the club and which gives our coaches and players the chance to develop and increase their skills. It is the cornerstone of our strategy to have an outstanding club for the 2012 Olympics’ legacy.”

Welcome

The club has now been playing at 'The Hobbies' for 26 Years having played all our games away from home for several years after losing the home ground at Viaduct Farm in Chappel. The club is currently thriving with 3 senior teams all being boosted by our colts who have contributed greatly to the teams.

Our 1st and 2nd team play in the Piri Piri North Essex Cricket League. The 1st team in division 2 and the 2nd team in division 5. The 3rd team is a friendly team which comprises colts and anybody else that would like to play a game of cricket.

We also have a variety of colts of all different ages starting from 8 up to 16 year olds. Some of the age ranges play in the North Essex District Junior Cricket League.

Colts practice is on a Monday night for all age groups commencing from 23rd April to early September for a 6pm start.

Tuesday nights are club nights when all players are welcome to practice in the nets and to do some fielding practice, this is when the weekend teams are selected.
